Day 12 Tuesday
We met a interesting man from Germany. He was at a info center on his BMW motorcycle. When you stop for anything, IE;gas, food, lodging, conversations always start up. Where you from? Where you going? Anyway, this gentleman, Hans, was close to winding up a 3 month journey with his bike. This includes Siberia,Japan,Canada and the US over 70,000 kilometers. He is going as far as Montreal and shipping his bike from there.
It was a wildlife active day with encounters of Caribou, several Bison and a good sized Black bear running the tree line. About 40 yards off the road!
Weather was a major factor during our 332 mile ride. Plenty of rain and cold in the morning, along with road construction, lose gravel and mud. What a mess!!!! Then in the afternoon it dried out and thru the work zones you follow a pilot car with a line of traffic in what feels likes a dust storm. One good thing is that they allow motorcycles to go to the front of the line at stops. Our bikes and ourselves were totally trashed by the time we got to the overnight stop in Watson Lake. It was a good two hours of cleaning the bikes after finding out that there is something acidic in the road materials. They warned us to get it off the bikes as soon as possible!! One of the highlights scenic wise was Muncho Lake, a gorgeous mirrored lake nestled at the foot of the mountains. *****Photos attached*****
DAY 13 Wednesday
Today we just wanted to get to Whitehorse and take a much deserved day off Thursday. Thirteen days on the move with a different motel/hotel every night. We must be rock stars or something!!!!!!! Starting the morning at the sign forest, a phenom since WWII. A lonely GI, working on the AlCan highway, started it all by putting up a sign with his town and how far away it was. It just so happened to be Danville Ill. Today the town maintains the park and there are over 10,000 signs from all over the world. We didn't have a sign so we laid claim by signing one of the posts.
The day greeted with cold and rain, which continued most of the day. There was no wildlife to speak of, "why you ask"? They are too smart to go out in that weather. We crossed over the continental divide during
our 280 mile ride. Got into town early and checked into Canada's Best Value Inn. Dinner that night was
Caribou stew and it was incredibly delicious.
No Internet for days, trying to catch up
