DAY 2
Saturday morning we got a late start out of Alexandria. Tom kept us up late at the Karaoke bar so we slept in a little. A short cruise to Fargo ND (100 mls.) and breakfast at Kroll's diner. A great little fifties style restaurant, the food was very good and abundant. You can learn more about the diner in Food Network magazine.
The day got us another 510 miles west, which pushed us all the way across the state of North Dakota. Kudos to ND for well maintained roads and very little traffic. The state was a little hilly and very green which made for a pleasurable ride. However the winds continued from Friday (30 to 35mph gusts) and we had to work to get the miles on. Leaving ND takes you right along Teddy Roosevelt National Park. Within this park is an area called Painted Canyon and I-94 takes you right thru it. INCREDIBLE
We finally ended up in the town of Glendive Montana. Our goal was to hit Montana and then slow down and really start enjoying. Lodging in Glendive was a bit sticky due to it being a holiday weekend! After a bad experience checking in and immediately out at a Best Western, we found a dated but satisfactory place called the Yellowstone River Inn. Complete with bar, restaurant and casino, no need to get back on the bikes.
The bikes are performing beautifully but look like the bottom of a bug zapper was pasted to their fronts. Also, each day it gets a little easier to pack and unpack with the little used items settling to the bottom. Yes, the gel pads work, so no problems there after the first thousand!
We are all well and happy with our progress!!!!!
